In 1935, a set of four commemoratives was issued to mark
King George V’s silver jubilee (25th anniversary of his
accession to the throne). This
registered letter, bearing all four stamps plus a second one
penny, had sufficient postage for its journey to the United
States. However, on arrival it was subject to a ten cent fee
for customs clearance, even though no custom duty was
imposed. Two five cent US postage dues were applied and then
cancelled when the fee was paid.
