This cover, mailed on February 29, 1972, contains a decimal 1 1/2p stamp and a predecimal 4d stamp worth slightly over 1 1/2 new pence. The first class rate at the time was 3p, so this cover was franked with sufficient postage. This was the last day on which predecimal stamps were valid for postage, the end of a transition period of twelve and a half months.
