In 1989, Royal Mail publicized the use of lead-free gasoline (called “petrol” in Britain) with a special “We (love) Lead-Free” cancel in which a heart was used to signify the word “love.” Since the use of lead-free gasoline is a measure to preserve the environment, the cancel was applied with green ink.
