The 26p is one of the gold Machins issued in 1997 to celebrate the Queen’s Golden Wedding Anniversary. The other was a first-class non-denominated (non-value indicated or NVI) stamp.

The gold Machins were discontinued at the end of the anniversary year, but the first-class gold Machin was reissued on a permanent basis in 2002 to celebrate the golden jubilee of the Queen’s accession and coronation.
